Dr Whale’s identity – EXCLUSIVE TEASER

We know everyone is excited to find out Dr Whale’s identity, and we have a small teaser for you.
“Dr Whale’s FTL counterpart will definitely surprise everyone. Nobody has guessed who he as far as I have seen. It’s certainly on par with Rumplestiltskin being the Beast and Red being the Wolf and some things will make sense with his reveal.”

  1. Baelfire? Lol.

    • Baelfire was sent to our world before the curse. It’s not him.

      • you are assuming that Baelfire was sent to our world. All we really know is that Baelfire was sent somewhere he would be safe.

        • Actually, he was sent to a world without magic, which would be ours ;) unless there’s another world without magic, but then I would guess Rumple would make sure before creating the curse, lol

          • Amanda Melrose says:

H was harassing Rd Ridig Hood. I think there’s a clue to his identity in that.

    • I figured it out!! He’s THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF or the wolf who blew down the three little pigs house! When he and Ruby flirted, it would have been like an instinctual “you’re a wold. I’m a wolf”. OR while we originally thought Ruby was threatened by the potential that he was the wolf, maybe he was the one being threatened now that we know ruby is the wolf. Also, when he approached regina it was in a very “ill huff, puff, and blow your house down” kind of a way. And his name is “Dr. Whale”…if you don’t take it so literal it can be “wail” like “cry”. The boy who CRIED wolf! Regina also says “listening to you has made us all suffer”..another BOY WHO CRIED WOLF hint

  2. Alice Madlass says:

He is Death’s Grandson! For love of God he can see when people die. It ties in with his counterpart being a doctor in Fairy Tale Land. Or maybe he can stop death by trapping it in a bag. IDUNNOREALLY.

  3. A mermaid. Ariel. That would be a twist.

  4. I guessed that Red was the Wolf right away though… My guess is he’s Peter Pan.

    • I completely agree actually. Peter Pan. We know they are introducing Hook this season – so Peter is a given at some point. And it sorta makes sense. We wouldn’t guess it was Peter because Peter is supposed to be a young kid. Dr. Whale is clearly not. However, if you look at his character it makes sense. He has an inflated sense of self (Peter Pan always thought he was the best thing ever) and a love ‘em and leave ‘em mentality (Peter wouldn’t stay with Wendy and grow up because he was more concerned with himself) and he always thinks he has won before the battle has even begun (Peter never doubted his ability to defeat Hook even when it made no sense whatsoever). He would be extremely confused and pissed off that the curse was broken because he was eternally young and now he finds his worst nightmare has come true – he is a grown man.

  5. Bluebeard FT counterpart attracted women because of wealth in our world what is an attractive job to women? Being a dr. Maybe instead of killing he just ruined their virtue.

    • I agree with this. I’m between Bluebeard and Ariel. Bluebeard would be the more creative choice, but the fact that they are saying it will be a twist along the lines of Rumpel as the Beast, I think a genderbent Ariel (or maybe even Eric?) would probably be more likely. Still, I hope it’s Bluebeard!

  6. The cow jack sold for his magic beans, who eventually jumped over the moon. That is a twists.

  7. Do you guys know who he is? Lets see…most random guess…Maybe he’s Dory… :-D It would be cool if he were Tinker Bell. :-D Maybe John Smith…King Arthur…OH!!!! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! You know….the whole Lancelot thing. And MM DID date him…*sleep with him….cough….cough*

  8. Is he Poseidon?

  9. slurpeez108 says:

Could he be Peter Pan? Peter Pan certainly would be iconic and it’d explain why the executive producers didn’t reveal his identity until season 2; they were waiting to acquire the rights to the story from the children’s’ hospital in Londo, which they just recently obtained..

  10. I still say dr Frankenstein. It’s is a guess I’ve seen other people make, but only once or twice in remote corners of blogs. The teaser does say, “as far as I’ve seen,” I would love it if he was godfather death but that is such an obscure fairytale

  11. I think he is Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde…

  12. Oh, please, don’t flatter yourselves. Red as the big, bad wolf was not an out-of-this-world twist.

I still think he is Peter Pan. Peter’s perfect nightmare would be being an adult. Though the genderbent theory of him being Ariel is quite amazing.

  13. Maybe Faust.

  14. cynthiapren says:

Dr. Whale is the (incredible) Hulk. I will go out on a limb and say for sure on this…time will tell.

  15. cynthiapren says:

When we combine the information in these two articles with the many clues…we get the Hulk.

  16. If it’s similiar to Rumple being the Beast and rRed being de Wolf then ti’s obvius he’s Victor Frankenstein being also the Monster.

  17. This series is based off fairy tales and children’s stories, mainly of which Disney has had a hand in( they own ABC) What’s with all the horror references? Why would Dr Frankenstein or Jeckle/Hyde be characters even being considered as Whales identity?

    • Probably because the writers don’t only seem to be limiting themselves to those categories. They seem to be referencing various literary works, such as the Siren from Odysseus. As both Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde refer to literary works, they can’t be ruled out completely. ;)

  18. What if doctor whale is me, now that would be a twist I didn’t see coming.

  19. kurt redfearn says:

i say hes the boy who cried wolf

  20. technically there are sirens in peter pan if you look at the original story. the mermaids in that were sirens. its not a huge leap to say they were simply from peter pan. it keeps with fairy tales etc.

id like to see dr. whale as Monstro. its very obvious but still, itd be interesting.

    • The issue with that is that there are no other animal characters who became human with the curse. You can’t count Archie because he was originally human – and Red was always the werewolf, switching back and forth. It makes no sense for this human doctor to be the whale that swallowed Pinocchio and Gippetto. Why would he all of a sudden be human? I think we are taking his name too literally – something I wuold imagine the creators did on purpose. If you watched Lost at all you would know that there were HUNDREDS of fake clues to mislead people thrown into that show as well. Or clues that were never acted upon because that wasn’t the way the story ended up going. I think his name has very little to do with who he will end up being in the story.

      • okay a) i did watch lost. and b) i said id like that. not that i thought it would ever happen. id just like to see monstro’s story. i bet theyd have a fun take on it.
never said it was my theory. i dont have one. i want them to surprise me.

  21. Songbird78 says:

In the season premiere Regina said to Whale that “Having to listen to you has been enough suffering for all of us”. Is there a character that talks too much? I felt like that was a clue.

  22. Princess Donna says:

I think he is Prince Eric from the Little Mermaid. That story has to do with the ocean and whales are in the ocean. Also, he made that snide comment to Charming, “You’re not my Prince.” So if he is Prince Eric, then Charming wouldn’t be his Prince. Thoughts????

  23. What about king triton???

  24. How about Oz from The Wizard of Oz?

  25. He’s Dracula

  26. He’s sooooooo Frankenstein.

  27. I think he’s King Triton, myself. I don’t think he’s Prince Eric because the way he spoke to Charming about him not being his prince… he said that with superiority. If Whale was another prince, he would speak to him as if they were equal rivals. Whale being a KING… puts him at a level ABOVE Prince Charming. And also would make him kinda pissed that Charming seems to rule all the lands and he’s not even a King! I’m going with King Triton and the Whale reference is the reference to him being from the sea. I would love to know before the big reveal in 20 days though. I think 20 days is far too long to wait, since I’ve been speculating about this since last year.

  28. Songbird78 says:

I found it interesting that in the chaos that was going on in last night’s episode when everyone was bombarding Charming with all those questions, the only question Dr. Whale had was if the nuns could date. He has always been kind of a womanizer, hitting on Red, sleeping with Snow…I wonder if this is a clue too. The only people who come to mind are Casanova or Don Juan. But I don’t think that’s who he is. Who else was a womanizing character? Thoughts?

  29. Sirens are still something of fairytales and are not exclusive to Odysseus by any means. They also fit the appropriate time period. We are dealing with mostly Grimm or Grimm-like Fairytales, most of which Disney has already animated in film whether movie or cartoon shorts. Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde are adult horror novels of their time with no moral story to benefit children. A completely different genre. I would say its safe to rule them out.

  30. Dr. Frankenstein: James Whale directed Frankenstein. In the dating video, Dr. Whale says “sparks will fly” – duh, he will play Sting – Sting played in a Frankenstein movie in the 80′s, “a single carnation” refers to Oxford where Mary Shelly’s husband taught. I think his obsession with woman has something to do with creating a bride. In the season 2 promo there is an image of a person in a tent with lightning strikes. Oh, and the episode “The Doctor” will be close to Halloween.

  31. One more thing, the movie Frankenweenie produced by Disney who also does this show. Don’t get so caught up in the traditional fairy tales. I think that anything with magic or monsters is a go for this show.

  32. Lizinsydney says:

I agree with dr frankenstein. I think he will try to bring Daniel back to life for Regina. There is a scene with shadows in a tent and lightening strikes while someone is lying down in the promo if you freeze frame it.

  33. I think the surprise is that dr whale is frankenstein. But no dr victor frankenstein, the monster of frankenstein instead. Because that he is always searching a girl. A bride. Maybe he have the heart of regina lover.

  34. Cok0siita says:

Perhaps….for me, with all the singlebrook thing, it’s maybe, a little crazy but Simba? From the Lion king…. (Whale = Sea Lion)
    a. Good at making friends.
    b. for dinner a single carnation
    c. a visit to my condo (a huge land….??) where I will play the very best of Sting (In the Theatrical version of The Lion King, there’s a part STING), and the sparks will fly (like when he saw her father in the field).

Classic “God complex” . Like a LION
I have no idea, could be anybody. Just that maybe for me it like Simba, and he shout to Charming “Your not my prince” …. He said it to his uncle Scar, only with king.
